about

Global Village Tapestry is a song that emerged from my many years of traveling the world, living at eco-villages, learning about Permaculture, connecting with indigenous communities, and envisioning a thriving world that's interconnected like a global village tapestry.

I started recording this song in November 2019 at Studio C in Oakland. This studio is run by Jason Cropper, and is where the band Weezer recorded their Blue album. There, Zebra recorded some saxaphone, flute, and bird sounds.

Then I went to my hometown, San Luis Obispo, and went to the Painted Sky Studio, run by Steve Crimmel, where we recorded my Dad (Bob Liepman) on Cello, my Mom (Wendy Liepman) on vocals, Sal Garza on Violin, and Alex Quirk (aka nok nok) on flute.

Right before embarking on a journey to Central America, I visited Makila WindDragon at the Yuba Sun Studio in Grass Valley, California, and gave him my files, and Forrest Caleb Kelly added drums to the song.

Fast forward almost a year, and I was finally returning to States after having been in Guatemala and Costa Rica for 9 months due to the pandemic! I visited Shane Rilling (Shining Lion) and his son Alaeika in Ojai, where we recorded a scene for the music video to his hip-hop verse.

Then, in Grass Valley, I visited Makila and re-recorded my vocals and some guitar parts and worked a bit on the arrangement and mixing. Soon after that, I moved to Boulder, Colorado, and have been working with Makila remotely. During that time, Makila added piano and some percussion and vocals, Carey Davoli (Triada) added vocals, Thomas Spellman added Bass, Colin Martin tuned up my vocals, and Makila mixed and mastered the track.

It's been a long journey, both writing the song, producing the song, and living the adventure that inspired the song. And I'm filled with gratitude to be able to share it with you!

Please share this with anyone and everyone who you feel would benefit from hearing this song, and make sure to watch the music video!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

lyrics

Hand by Hand
we can weave this dream
Of a global village tapestry
Weave in weave out, up and down all around!

(x2)

When I dream, I dream of harmony throughout this planet, with people caring for this life, not taking it for granted,
Caring for the People
Caring for the Earth
Caring for the Future Beings yet to be birthed

I see people
Treating each as equals
Steppin’ out of their doors
To write a new sequel
Of a time, When Babylon completely collapsed
And the people took the power back
And functions were stacked

Stacking functions, functionally finding new ways, to harness energy
from the sun’s mighty rays,
and sink, slow and store
water in the ground with mulch,
and regenerate the lands, from the deserts to the gulfs

I see food growing on rooftops
And front and backyards
Hands in the soil planting kale and squash and chard
I see murals in the street
And so much food to eat
That big agro-business can’t even compete
With the revolution of solutions taken back the land,
by and for the people who chose to take a stand (x2)

Now every culture, Every faith
Every religion, every race
Every being, every face
Every body has a place
A place to be, a place to thrive
A place to fully come alive
A place that we can call our home
In this living biodome, oooh-oh-oh-oh-oh-om
In this living biodome, oooh-oh-oh-oh-oh-om

Om. Lokah Samastah, Sukhino, Bhavantu
May all be happy, may all be free
May all be thriving like we're meant to be. (x2)
May all the beings in all the world be happy, lokah samastah
May all the beings in all the world be free, sukihno bhavantu
May all the beings in all the world be happy, lokah samastah
May all the beings in all the world be free, sukihno bhavantu

Mend the seams of this dreams
Together we will weave this tapestry

weave the threads of freedom
Weave the threads of peace
Weave the threads of love
Over, through and underneath

The ancestors hand us the threads of integrity
Pick it up in prayer and continue the legacy

Hand by Hand
we can weave this dream
Of a global village tapestry
Weave in weave out, up and down all around!

(x2)
